Participant Information Sheet
Introduction
You are invited to take part in a research study exploring how Generation Z understand and practise the idea of “protecting your peace.” Before deciding whether to participate, it is important that you understand the purpose of the research and what taking part will involve. Please read the following information carefully.
Purpose of the Study
This research aims to explore how young adults approach life balance, boundaries, work choices and relationships in contemporary society. In recent years, the phrase “protecting your peace” has become widely used on social media and in everyday conversation. It often refers to setting boundaries, avoiding unnecessary stress and prioritising personal balance.
The study aims to understand how members of Generation Z interpret this concept and how it influences their attitudes towards work, lifestyle and personal relationships.
Why You Have Been Invited
You have been invited to take part because you fall within the study’s target group of young adults aged 18–26, which places you within the Generation Z age range being examined in this research.
Approximately 300 participants will take part in the study.
What Participation Involves
Participation involves completing a short anonymous online questionnaire. The questionnaire asks about:

attitudes towards life balance
-
work and career preferences
-
approaches to conflict and relationships
-
personal boundaries and wellbeing
-
understanding of the phrase “protecting your peace”
The questionnaire should take approximately 5 minutes to complete.
Voluntary Participation
Taking part in this research is entirely voluntary. You are free to decide whether or not to participate.
If you decide to take part, you are still able to withdraw from the study at any time before submitting your responses, without providing a reason and without any negative consequences.
Confidentiality and Anonymity
All responses will remain anonymous and confidential. The questionnaire will not ask for any identifying personal information.
The information collected will only be used for academic research purposes and will be analysed as part of a student research project.
Data Protection
All data will be handled in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) 2018 and the ethical guidelines of Farnborough College of Technology.
Electronic data will be stored securely and will only be accessible to the researcher and supervising tutor. The data will be retained for six months after the completion of the project and then permanently deleted.
Risks or Discomfort
This study does not involve any significant risks. However, if you feel uncomfortable answering any question, you may skip it or withdraw from the questionnaire before submitting your responses.
Use of the Research
The results of this study will be analysed and written up as part of an academic research report submitted for assessment. The findings may also be used to help understand how Generation Z approach life balance and social pressures in contemporary society.
Participants may request a summary of the research findings if they are interested in the results.
